Reaching Out

Every quarter Active Minds puts on several informative and fun events that are geared towards educating students on the importance of mental health. In the past, we have teamed up with CAPS, EOP, The Mental Health Peers, Acacia, RCSGD, Hermanos Unidos, and Health and Wellness to put on exciting events for students like you.

Reducing Stigma

It is our mission to fight the stigma that surrounds mental health. We tackle this in a number of ways including educating students in weekly meetings and organizing various outreach events to specific communities. In the past we've participated in events like Stress Less Week, Stigma Free UCSB, and Dog Therapy Day

Finding Resources

While we strive to educate students on mental health issues, we also inform them of other services on campus that can assist with personal concerns. We often point students towards CAPS, Student Health, Acacia, The Mental Health Peers, and other services that are specifically tailored to the mental health needs of UCSB students.

About Us

We are the UCSB Chapter of Active Minds. Dedicated to eradicating the stigma associated with mental illness, Active Minds members work to promote awareness and understanding of mental health concerns across the nation.

Active Minds at UCSB was founded in February of 2008 and reduces the stigma by educating peers and acting as a liaison between students and the mental health community. This Chapter creates awareness on campus through unique and creative events, discussion, tabling, and other activities.

Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Become an Advocate

Active Minds has something for everybody! You don't have to be a psychology major to join this org - the only requirement is a passion for helping others. We currently have Officer and Advocate positions for individuals who want to be more involved than general members.

If you are interested in volunteer work then you should consider joining our Advocate Program. This program was created and instilled by the UCSB Chapter President Crystal Groel. The Advocate Program provides volunteer opportunities for students who are interested in giving back to their community and spreading awareness.

Active Minds & Beyond

Active Minds is the leading nonprofit organization that empowers students to openly speak about mental health in order to educate others. It is our goal to change the culture on campuses and in the community by providing information, leadership opportunities, and advocacy training for all students.

Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to eradicate the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and to create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health concerns on college campuses nationwide.

"After struggling with my mental health, I wanted to take those experiences and help others. Active Minds at UCSB was the perfect place for me to educate peers, spread awareness, and fight the stigma that prevented me from seeking help years ago."

– Crystal Groel,

UCSB Chapter President
